For this week’s Employee Highlight, we’re shining the spotlight on Jessica Hunter, the MVE Winner for our IT Department. Jessica shares with us her love of outdoor adventures, past work experiences, and why she loves working at FSIoffice, as well as some surprising facts! What do you love most about what you do and about working at FSIoffice in general?
The thing I love most about FSI is the people I work with.
Tell us about your job position and some of your typical work tasks.
I update and maintain data in our business system, DDMS. I make changes to and delete Customer Orders, I add and update Customer Accounts, and I run reports for both internal and external use.
Before working at FSIoffice, what was the most unusual or interesting job you have had?
Before working at FSIoffice, I worked for the State of Louisiana in the Department of Environmental Quality as a dispatcher. I took complaints from the public as well as notices from industrial companies. This was interesting because some of the public complaints were quite absurd, such as complaints about neighbors who were trying to kill the caller with radiation machines. The industrial notices were also interesting, but in a much different way as many chemical plants had a tendency to, well, explode. In explosive or other emergency situations, I’d be responsible for dispatching our emergency responders.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you “grow up”?
I always wanted to be a Zoologist working at a large cat sanctuary with Tigers, Panthers, Jaguars and such.
What is on your bucket list to do OR name some thing(s) on your bucket list that you have done?
Some things I have checked off of my bucket list include: Snorkeling, Caving, Snowboarding, Horseback riding, swimming in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Naming a Star, and fostering animals
Some things that are still on my bucket list include: Taking a ride on a helicopter, walking on hot coals, pet a tiger, climb a volcano, and visit all 50 states
What is your favorite thing to do in the wonderful city of Charlotte?
I enjoy going out to the US Whitewater Center
What are some of your favorite activities and interests outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy fencing with a local Historical European Martial Arts group. I also enjoy hiking, rock climbing, and dancing.
What’s a miscellaneous fun fact about you?
I fight with swords.
